ROSÉ ALL DAY
(until the police arrive)
There’s something happening here, but what it is ain’t exactly clear. How did we get to a place where Taco Bell serves rosé – in rosé-slurpee form, no less? The Regional Kitchen & Public House threw down the local challenge when they opened two years ago and introduced their own addictive recipe for the wildly popular, frosé-a-licious summer cocktail. Secret ingredients include a favorite rosé, essence of strawberry and citrus, plus a dash of Aperol, blended and frozen to a delicious slush, beautifully presented to a big-eyed someone like me in a pretty, v-shaped stem glass.
Accepting the challenge for the best frosés are 123 Datura, Avocado Grill and Clare’s Bar, in Grandview Market. Talk about Frosé All Day. There’s someone with a frosé in hand every minute of every day on Clare’s loading dock deck. Their ingredients are similar to The Regional’s, but they use locally made vodka instead of Aperol, and serve it in a 9 oz. stemless wine glass, topped with fresh mint and strawberry. Swoon.
US rosé sales jumped 64% in the year ending in May, according to Nielsen. Not sure what lit this spark a couple of years ago, but rosé is on fire. Target’s in on the action, too, with their own brand called Yes Way Rosé. And there’s a Rosé Mansion in NYC solely dedicated to celebrating the wine, with a bar filled with hot pink sand, a bathtub filled with roses and a blending lab where you can make your own mix.
Keeps us in the pink.
Olé to rosé!
